Slot Themes
The theme index groups titles by subject. It is the most useful way into the catalogue when you know the kind of game you want but not its name, and it also shows how unevenly the studios distribute their output: a handful of subjects carry hundreds of titles while others carry a dozen.
Groups are worked out from the title itself. A title whose name points at two subjects appears in both, and a title whose name gives nothing away appears in none, reachable through its studio instead.
How the groups were decided
Studios do not publish a common theme taxonomy, and the words they use in their own marketing differ from one supplier to the next. Rather than invent a label for each game, the index reads the title: a name containing a tile game, a deity, a fruit or a season places the game in the matching group.
The method is deliberate and has a known weakness. It groups by what a title announces, so a game with an abstract name is left ungrouped even when its artwork is unambiguous. Full write-ups record the studio’s own description, and those corrections are applied as each title is reviewed.
